The New Mexico Borderplex continues to attract companies looking for the right combination of location, workforce, infrastructure and room to grow. The latest company choosing to invest in the region is EquipmentShare, one of the largest construction equipment rental providers in the United States and a leader in connected jobsite technology.

EquipmentShare plans to establish a new Site Solutions managed services operation at 9030 Advancement Ave. in the Las Cruces Innovation & Industrial Park.

The new operation will expand EquipmentShare’s presence in the region while providing contractors across Southern New Mexico and the Borderplex with greater access to equipment, technology and jobsite services.

And with that investment comes new opportunity for the local workforce. The planned facility is expected to create tech-powered jobs in Las Cruces. A typical EquipmentShare branch is associated with approximately 25 to 50 jobs.

More Than Equipment Rental

EquipmentShare is helping change the way construction companies manage their jobsites.

Founded in 2015 and headquartered in Columbia, Missouri, the company combines traditional equipment rental with technology that helps contractors better understand where their equipment is, how it is being used and what is happening across a jobsite.

The Las Cruces Site Solutions operation is expected to provide services including mobile tool trailers, on-site fueling, equipment management and technology solutions designed to increase productivity and reduce costly downtime.

At the center of EquipmentShare’s technology is its proprietary T3® platform, which connects customers with real-time fleet management, equipment tracking, jobsite monitoring and productivity tools.

For contractors operating throughout the Borderplex, that means having access to more than equipment. It means having technology and information that can help them operate more efficiently.

“Las Cruces offers an ideal combination of location, economic momentum, and a thriving business environment that aligns with our growth strategy,” said Amy Susán, Senior Director of Public Affairs. “This new facility is just the beginning of our long-term commitment to Southern New Mexico. We’re excited to open our doors, support contractors with the equipment and site solutions they need, and help build the future of construction right here in Las Cruces.”

Two Years in the Making

EquipmentShare’s decision to expand in Las Cruces represents the culmination of more than two years of recruitment, collaboration and problem-solving between EquipmentShare, the Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance (MVEDA), NAI 1st Valley and the City of Las Cruces.

That timeline is an important part of the story. Bringing a company to the Borderplex often begins long before an announcement is made. It requires building relationships, understanding a company’s operational needs, identifying and evaluating sites, navigating real estate requirements, coordinating incentives, connecting workforce resources and bringing together public and private partners.

Throughout the process, MVEDA worked closely with EquipmentShare and NAI to identify potential locations, coordinate local and state incentive opportunities, facilitate introductions to property owners and development partners, and connect the company with workforce resources to support future hiring.

Finding the right property was particularly important because of EquipmentShare’s unique real estate and operational requirements.

“This operation had unique real estate and operational requirements. Finding the right location required careful evaluation of multiple sites, and we’re proud to have helped identify a property that positions the operations for long-term success,” said Jacob Slavec, Principal at NAI.

Ultimately, the infrastructure, available facilities and business environment in Las Cruces helped the community stand out from other locations EquipmentShare considered.

“EquipmentShare is exactly the kind of company we want investing in Las Cruces,” said Preston Williams, Associate Broker of NAI. “They had options throughout the region, but the infrastructure and complementary facilities available here helped Las Cruces stand out. This project demonstrates our city’s ability to compete for and attract quality companies and investment.”

Another Win for the New Mexico Borderplex

EquipmentShare’s decision represents more than the arrival of a new company. It demonstrates the growing competitiveness of Las Cruces and the New Mexico Borderplex as a destination for companies serving construction, manufacturing, logistics and other growing industries.

“Welcoming EquipmentShare to Las Cruces is a significant win for our region,” said Brian Garcia, VP of Business Development for MVEDA. “Not only is this company building the future of the construction industry by connecting critical workflows and data points on chaotic jobsites, but this new facility and planned future expansion are expected to create quality jobs and strengthen our industrial economy. It demonstrates once again that market leaders recognize Las Cruces as a strategic hub for growth.”

The project will also receive support from the NMBorderplex Closing Fund, made possible through the New Mexico Economic Development Fund in partnership with the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico. The fund will help support EquipmentShare’s investment in Las Cruces.

EquipmentShare is expected to begin operations in Las Cruces this year.

“EquipmentShare’s decision to expand in Las Cruces is another example of the momentum our community continues to build,” said City of Las Cruces Mayor Eric Enriquez. “This planned investment is expected to create quality jobs and strengthen our industrial economy. It also reinforces why companies continue to choose Las Cruces as a place to invest and grow.”
