Welcome to the New Mexico Borderplex

The Borderplex brings together a diverse, binational region located in the center of trade for North America. The Borderplex is made up of 3 states, and 2 companies, which deliver 1 solution for your company’s manufacturing & logistics needs while also increasing your speed and reach to US customer base.

Canadian companies in the region (such as Endurance Technologies, Saputo Cheese, Circle K and more) are finding success with intermodal access to two Class 1 railroads, two major US interstate highways, the Jetport of Dona Ana County, NM, and the furthest east “dry crossing” with our designated overweight Port of Entry along the U.S./Mexico border.

The Borderplex also offers an abundance of industrial space, spanning both sides of the US./Mexico border allowing you to take advantage of twin plant efficiencies and shortening your supply chain.

COME FOR THE OPPORTUNITY. STAY FOR THE CHILE.

Where Agricultural Heritage Meets Innovation

The New Mexico Borderplex has a long agricultural tradition, but today’s agriculture is about more than growing crops. With a unique combination of fertile farmland, a long growing season, agricultural research, advanced technology, and a growing food-processing industry, the region provides a strong environment for companies looking to grow, process, package, and add value to agricultural products.

The region is home to more than 2,100 farms spanning approximately 659,000 acres. Mild winters and a long growing season support year-round agricultural production, while the diverse landscape and climate allow producers to grow a wide range of crops. The region’s leading agricultural products include dairy, beef, onions, pecans, and, of course, New Mexico chile.

Doña Ana County is one of New Mexico’s most diverse agricultural areas and a national leader in pecan and chile production. Its agricultural strength creates opportunities not only for growers, but also for companies involved in food manufacturing, processing, packaging, cold storage, agricultural technology, and other value-added activities.

From the Field to the Food Industry

The Borderplex offers opportunities throughout the agricultural value chain. Companies can tap into locally grown commodities and connect with producers, researchers, processors, manufacturers, and distribution networks within the region.

The growing popularity of Hispanic and Southwestern foods has expanded demand for products such as chile, salsa, blue corn products, tortillas, and other regionally inspired foods. This creates opportunities for companies involved in food processing, product development, packaging, ingredient production, and specialty food manufacturing.

Supporting New Mexico’s Chile Industry

The New Mexico Chile Association (NMCA) plays an important role in protecting and strengthening the state’s chile industry. Founded in 2005, the nonprofit organization brings together growers, processors, manufacturers, distributors, and other industry stakeholders working across the chile supply chain. NMCA advocates for the sustainability and prosperity of New Mexico chile while supporting local growers, businesses, research, education, and the state’s agricultural heritage.

New Mexico Chile Association Logo with Bold Chile Text on a Yellow Sign and Green and Red Chili Peppers BelowNMCA also operates the New Mexico Certified Chile™ program, which helps consumers and businesses identify authentic chile grown in New Mexico. The certification program is designed to protect the integrity of New Mexico chile, support local producers, and strengthen the connection between the product, the land where it is grown, and the communities that depend on the industry.

The association’s work represents the broader strength of the NMBorderplex agricultural ecosystem: growers, researchers, manufacturers, and industry organizations working together to protect a signature crop while creating opportunities for innovation and economic growth.

New Mexico Chile:
An Agricultural Icon

Few products are more closely associated with New Mexico than chile. From green chile roasted in the fall to red chile used in traditional sauces, New Mexico chile is a signature agricultural product with a growing national market.

Despite its familiar name, there is no chile pepper variety officially called “Hatch chile.” Hatch refers to where the chile is grown. The Hatch Valley, located north of Las Cruces, became one of the most recognized growing regions for New Mexican chile. Several varieties of New Mexican pod-type chile can be marketed as Hatch chile when grown in the Hatch area, while New Mexico-grown chile from other communities carries its own regional identity.

This distinction is part of what makes New Mexico’s chile industry unique. Generations of growers, researchers, food manufacturers, and agricultural scientists have helped develop chile varieties suited to the state’s climate and growing conditions, creating an agricultural ecosystem that continues to evolve.
